Camera on lamppost - Halmerend
Noticed today on the main road whilst driving home that a camera has been installed on one of the lampposts pointing towards a strip of road where speeding is problem. No other indication of what the camera’s for. Any ideas what it might be doing?

Without a photo or link to what it looked like the answer is a definate 'no'.

With AI expect far more cameras to be installed. Traffic counts, traffic movements using ANPR, speed monitoring, traffic light timings, variable speeds etc etc.

Imo the Government is steadily installing cameras for a Pay per mile system. Can't afford to fill in the potholes, but there's always tons of cash to support more revenue generation. They'll be a "consultation" then a "trial period" then it's a certainty.

And remember there's only about a six month lag between ' conspiracy theory' and Government policy. So when it's finally announced , try to look surprised.

As much as 6 months?

As as above, we need to see a picture of the camera.

If it's for speed it has to be an approved device and they seem, by definition, to be bulky.

Suspect it's for traffic observation of one sort or another.

Likely a traffic monitoring camera.

If speeding was an issue then one of those temporary speed display signs would likely be deployed first to monitor the situation.
