Skoda Enyaq - EV charging cable - DieselMan1966

Hi

We have a skoda enyaq with the type 2 cable with an ohme wall box for about a year. Last week we plugged it into the wall box and it failed to connect, We then went to a local supermarket with a pod point charger and the cable worked ok. The wall box is showing a steady green light so its getting power and the firmware is up to date,

We spoke to Ohme and they are arranging for an engineer to call and look at the box. Last night for curiosity we plugged it back in and it worked fine as we heard a click and the display turned purple and began charging the car.

I think its been dirt on the connections, my question is is it ok to use some electrical contact cleaner on the cable to clean these as I do on my old corsa's electrical contacts before each winter

If it’s a connection issue, then it’s more likely to be the two smaller pins which carry the signal system. Can’t see a problem using contact cleaner . Just give it a blow out afterwards . Do you have a small air compressor or tyre inflator?

Thanks, I have cans of compressed air we use to clean IT equipment so that would do as well

You may be aware that the propellant in compressed air cans hangs around for a good few seconds after a long squirt. I wasn’t and learned a lesson, so beware of any spark risk e.g if the connection is still a bit iffy.

It's rather polluted 'air' if it is that flammable ! May be safer to get one of those laughing-gas bottles :-)

On that subject , Investigated a rattle in the tumble dryer , expected to find coins etc but found one of those mini deoderant cans the missus took on holiday and somehow got in with the washing instead. It was full and with butane propellant it would have been a hell of a bang.

Update from the original post, Ohme eventually checked in the background and there was a fault with the box, which has now been replaced under their 3 year warranty.

All good apart from this week, Wednesday charged ok ready for a long trip to Scotch Corner, back to the Metro Centre via Crook, return to Scotch Corner and then back to Crook, 180 miles. Plugged it back in and it would not connect. Plugged it again to test it and it worked ok this morning. I'm thinking there could have been a software update and then a re-set needed as we turned it off overnight

Update number 2

It was the main charging cable which is being replaces under the vehicle warranty.

However since the second charge, the car is only charging at 3kw instead of 7

We had a similar issue back in November when it was diagnosed as regulator. Again replaced under warranty as the part would have cost over £4,000.

We have been using various rapid networks over the past 3 week, no more than 50kwh, am I correct in think this would not damage this part?
