Used the App for the first time at the weekend and was amazed to discover I was being warned about a pothole 70 metres ahead.

And it's free too.

Use it all the time. Far superior to the factory install navigation .

The only downside of Waze is that when an incident occurs, blocking the road, all Waze users get diverted the same way and can cause congestion - but the same downside can be levelled at all the other satnavs.

Think I'm the only person who does not like Waze - have tried it a lot of times over the years and always found the routing r****** and following it to/from work would always take me ways longer than ones I know myself - glad it seems to work for everyone else though!

I've never got on with Waze myself - although I'll give another try. I've always preferred Tomtom re traffic and recently Google Maps as it integrates to my car and Pixel phone so well and is great re voce control (Tomtom isn't!) and I love the satellite view . One thing I've noticed of late though with Google Maps is receiving reports from Waze users!

Waze has been owned by Google for over a decade.

Waze has been owned by Google for over a decade.

I'm aware of that but Google Maps messages "from Waze users" is a relatively recent enhancement.

A sort of 'lemmings' scenario? I used to get this a lot when travelling to Stevenage for work, choosing either the A1 from junctions 8 to 7 or going through the town.

Other than on a Friday (no brainer - A1), often just as bad as each other, made worse by everyone getting the same satnav diversionary message after an 'incident' and all switching at the same time, resulting in chaos.

Just as bad on Google Maps in my experience. I might try Waze in the future - I looked at it in the past and it seemed not-so-sophisticated.

What would be good is for useful information on incidents to be relayed so we users can make decisions ourselves - e.g. whether its an accident of the type that the road is blocked and will be for the foreseeable future, as opposed to a minor shunt or broken down vehicle where they can reach the hard shoulder / get off the road quickly without leaving dangerous debris on the road that needs to be cleared and not cause much disruption.

That how waze works. Users enter hazard data which is then shared for all users. Google maps does similar. If you encounter a hold up it prompts users to update the report.

Most of the criticism seems to relate privacy issues which I probably don’t really understand. I love it but it does occasionally lose connection from my Audi interface at the most inconvenient of times. It also seems to send me down the most obscure single track routes when I’m in Wales as evidenced by my door mirrors.

Almost all satnav systems are prone to that - sometimes along private tracks.

I've just used Google maps to drive across Leeds and warning of 'police presence' flagged up and asked me to confirm if are they still there.

This was in an area of Leeds where it could be useful info for certain individuals. There were indeed two police vans and a car parked up - they were in a cafe having food!
