Honda Accord 2006 mk 7 - Shock Absorber with Headlight Level Sensor Bracket - Surrey_Scientist

My front passenger side shock absorber has failed completely (oil everywhere in front arch) and lots of knocking and banging.

Bought a new Sachs Shock for my mechanic to fit but he's had to put the old one back on as its missing a bracket that goes up to what we've identified is the levelling sensor for the Xenon HID headlights.

The bracketv s welded on to the side of the shock so cannot be transferred, and the new one has this pointy but that locates it in the hub fork which is welded on so would be in thexway if we tried to cut off the one on the old shock, and my mechanic is unwilling to do any modification.

Rang the supplier who says all the different Honda part nos just all cross reference to the same part no. Which as we see doesn't have the bracket.....

Spent whole afternoon ringing parts factors but none can supply it.

Rang several Honda dealers parts Depts all say it's out of production and unobtainable.

Does anyone e know of a supplier ? And or an aftermarket supplier part no ?

I assume it will fit without the bracket but without the working Headlight levelling I've been told it won't pass the MOT without that working if its got HID Xenons.

I have seen a 2nd hand one on Ebay which has the bracket but they want £70 plus postage which is twice the price of a new one ! And i ve no idea what mileage it's done

And given the huge mileage i do (about 20k a year) I'd rather have a new one.

I have a 2006 face-lift estate. 2.4 petrol automatic executive with ADAS. Currently on 271,000 miles.

And have just recently serviced it and done a wheelbearing and some bodywork so would rather not sc*** it for sake of a shock absorber. Car is exceptionally sound everywhere else bar this despite the mileage, no rust uses barely any oil etc.

Do i have any work arounds?

My mechanic is mobile so does it in my drive so is not setup for welding on or making brackets or other fiddling around.

And i need it on the road ASAP is a have zn elderly disabled mother with cancer whonhas several hospital appointments a week that patient transport are refusing to carry any more on the basis she can climb into a car "unaided "

Thanks in advance guys

The mot doesn’t actually test the operation of the levelling system. The headlight aim needs to be correct on the aiming machine. I would set the level sensor to a position that allows the headlights to be within range , then lock it in position with some zip ties. Alternatively , I’m sure it wouldn’t be too difficult to fabricate a bracket and attach it to the strut with a worm drive clip.

As Doc, above.

The levellers are typically a bracket with the sensor attached via a tiny link with ball joints at each end, imagine a tiny suspension drop link, the ball joints never see any lube so eventually seize.

This happened to one on our Forester, the seized link causing the bracket on the shocker to break. Subaru parts are £tupid prices so i poked around on ebay and found Landcruiser links were similar and readily available, the bracket i made up via two cabinet repair right angle brackets easily found in any diy store, one bracket alone not stiff enough.

The original bracket base on the strut was still in place on my car, but had it not been then a sturdy worm drive clip or two would have clamped the angle brackets in place, quick paint up of everything once in place good as new.

This indicates that the brackets may be removable.

I saw those....

They are for converting standard Tein shock to one with the bracket.

with no idea of who/where sells the shocks or the brackets.... I googled them extensively.

They look also to be a company that sells stuff for modifying cars so the shocks they sell I think are also for lowering the suspension, not standard height like mine, and the bracket also looks shorter than my cars.

It is welded to the shock on my car we tried to get it off.

It looks to be part of the rim of the flange where the domed end of the shock is welded to the shaft
