2006 Peugeot 307 SW 2.0 HDI 136 RHR 6 speed box - Clutch pedal springy at bottom of travel - Advocas

Hi

My clutch pedal started being springy about 2cm from the bottom of it's travel, I managed to video through the release arm hole and could see at the bottom of the travel the release bearing stops moving but the release arm is flexing slightly causing the springy feeling.

I replaced the clutch and flywheel (LUK same as original) in 2019 at 138k, the new one has only done 23K, it seems to me that the clutch cover is not fully disengaging so probably the cover is faulty (maybe the automatic adjuster mechanism this seems to be an extra complication that isn't really needed).

Has anyone come across this before?

I wonder what stops the pedal at the bottom of it's travel, is it just it reaches the bottom of the master cylinder or is there a stop in the pedal box? perhaps the stop is broken? I don't want to change the clutch only to find the issue isn't resolved.

The clutch works fine but I'm about to do a 1500 miles trip in France visiting the my wife's family and don't want to get stranded without all the tools to change the clutch (breakdown cover only covers a repatriation up to the market value so the car would end being sc***ped in France).

Thanks in advance

Jon

If there is no problem with gear changing, perhaps you need not do anything beyond keeping an eye ?

Clutch and flywheel replacement, what about the hydraulic slave cylinder?

I replaced the slave cylinder last week which made no difference. After seeing yesterday that it's the release arm flexing I'm reasonably confident that it's not the hydraulic side.

Presumably you won't know whether the flexing has happened for a long time before your problem developed and you investigated ? So there may be only an apparent, not a real, fault ? Especially if there are no other symptoms ?

Exactly, there could be no fault with the clutch at all. I would like to find out what actually stops the pedal at the bottom of the travel (it's not the floor or carpet as the pedal doesn't touch them) maybe it's just the stop that is broken but I have had a good look at the pedal box and can't find a stop mechanism.

I have been monitoring it for the past 3 months but I have only done about 200 miles. In April we will be doing about 1500 miles in France, I'm worried it will fail during that trip.

Possibly the clutch release fork is worn / damaged so you’re not getting the full throw on the clutch mechanism.,

I don't think it's the release fork as I seem to have more throw than needed. I would have expect the clutch to not disengage fully if the release fork was worn badly.

Looks like it’s going to need gearbox out to go any further?
