Peugeot 3008 - High pitched intermittent rotational sound - HELP! - Hodgy_3008

Hi - can anyone help please - I've had my car in the local garage twice for this and they can't find the cause of my high pitched intermittent rotational sound...(Peugeot 3008, 1.2 petrol, manual, 17 plate)

My first guess was brakes - but they have 50% left...

The annoying thing is when I start driving my car from cold - the noise isn't there - takes around 10 mins of driving to become apparent - so when garage took it for drive - they couldn't replicate the noise... but I've had the noise for a few weeks now...

Backing plate was moved a touch by garage - no solution

The noise is only apparent when going slow (10-20 mph) - and specifically when doing a very slight right turn of wheel - or turning corners going right when slow or around a round about

It's also more apparent when going downhill- recently went through tyne tunnel - downhill and it sounded really bad (echo I guess!)

Leads me to think possibly something suspension related??? But I'm no mechanic..

Garage said there is very minor play on the right front drop link - but this wouldn't cause the noise?

I'm reluctant to take it back there as they probs think I'm one of those problem customers haha - but the noise needs sorting

Any help much appreciated - to take it into another garage and tell them to look at specific things so I sound like I know what I'm talking about

I had the same issue about 3 or 4 weeks after having new front discs and pads fitted at the main dealer.

Went back and told 'no fault found'

After another month the brakes were grabbing as if the discs were warped, again denied saying the uneven braking was the rears.

A roller test printout from a different garage and a polite email to the service manager resulted in free replacement discs. (for the avoidance of doubt, I do not sit with the brakes on after stops from high speed or long descents, so not warpage due to that)

Possibly the one of the front brake disks rubbing on its brake pad due to play in the front wheel bearing under load? Or even build-up of corrosion on the disk.

Thanks Joe - this is useful info to go back to another garage with.

Thanks for your reply - my immediate suspicion was brake discs area due to the intermittent noise sounding like worn brake discs - but when the garage said they are on 50% and that wasn't the cause

If they had fitted them, they would be tempted to say that, as per my post above.

Thought I'd share the solution to this noise - after visiting another garage - turns out it was corrosion to the rear right brake disc - which the first garage didn't pick up - no idea why

Also the rear right tyre was warped!

Eh ? A warped tyre ?

I once had a tyre that was out of round. I got a wheel alignment and suspension check but no good. It was then pointed out to me that the tyre was faulty. Replaced it and all was well.

Yes the rear tyre was 'out of round' - which gave the false impression that a wheel bearing needed replacing - same wobble feeling in car
