Kia Sportage - Cam chain catastophe - charlotte kemp

Hi everyone

The cam timing chain has gone on my 2017 Kia Sportage 2.0 CRDi. It is of course, just outside of warranty. Kia won't help and my experience of their local dealership is not positive.

Does anyone know where i can buy a used engine? I don't trust the reconditioned ones on ebay as there are no viable reviews.

TIA

Unfortunately it’s a known issue on this engine. It’s down to poor design of the camshaft drive system. Even if you’ve got a rock solid 100% service record from a main dealer , Kia will try to wriggle out of their warranty. You could try “find a part “ or breaker link , something may come up here . The only problem with s/hand , is you could end up with the same issue . I’d get back to Kia and argue your case that a car engine should last longer than the warranty period.

One of those rare occasions where Kia got it wrong, these aren’t good engines, not to be confused with the 1.7 diesels and the petrols which are generally very robust. Shame Kia wouldn’t help, out of curiosity what’s the cars mileage and does it have a full Ka main dealer service history?

Get yourself a solicitor, go for whoever who sold you the car.

It's not Kia you need to seek recompense from, it's the company or dealer or garage that sold you the car, it's their responsibility in law..
