People keen on LRs will find them interesting. I do but maybe for the wrong reasons. It surprises me people buy these things, not great reliability when new so with advancing years big bills are likely. There must be some good ones, maybe disappointed owners are more vocal. These are not cars to run on a tight budget, maybe that's part of the problem as they get older maintenance gets skipped.
Like 10yo BMWs and Audis, people on a budget often buy them for 'status' amongst the other Proles. I seriously doubt these are country folk buying them for their off-road / bad weather abilities, never mind reliability.
At least with the former two brands (buying the right model and avoiding dual clutch VAGs) you stand some chance of finding a decent styled / performing car that shouldn't go wrong if previously looked after well and not modded.
I wouldn't trust anything from JLR (as nice and a well as some can drive) as far as you could throw me. Just to unreliable and costly to keep on the road - way too much of a risk for my tastes.
Strange that (according to the Telegraph reporting) sales of LRs are up a good deal this past year, whilst those of Jags have collapsed, being a tiny proportion of the total. Loads of mugs out there, or people with far more money than sense, perhaps.
