We are into a revamp of the already confusing system which will bring big changes to vehicles at both ends of the pollution spectrum including EVs .

Also four seater pick up like the Amarok and Ranger will be re classed as passenger cars.

The only 4 seat pickups are the so called "super cabs", which is a halfway house between a (2 seat) single cab and a (5 seat) double cab. The Amarok has only ever been offered (in the UK) as a 5 seat double cab pickup.

As for the road tax, this article (van-pickup-tax-guide) on the Parkers website (dated 2nd Dec) says,

We have also since had clarification that pickup trucks will continue to be treated as commercial vehicles for VED purposes, despite the other changes to their status.

Yes, dual cab pickups are now classed as cars. Seems logical though.

Anyone who wants to buy them for commercial reason can claim VAT anyway.

Laws are better when they are applied uniformly without exceptions or loopholes.
