Audi A5 35 tdi - Audi A5 oil top uo - NAthan smith

Recently purchased Audi A5 sport back 2020 model 35 TDI. The oil could do with a top up but I cannot find in the manual the recommended oil to use? Any ideas?

Really? Is it below the minimum level? There is a widespread erroneous belief that the oil should be regularly 'topped up' to the maximum mark. In fact, anywhere between the minimum and maximum mark is acceptable. Indeed, there are two occasions when it is best to have it nearer the minimum mark; firstly in winter so the engine warms up that bit quicker, and secondly just before the oil change is due so that less oil is wasted. I suppose these reasons will be enthusiastically refuted by those with a vested interest in selling oil!

On the minus side, John, if the oil is nearer max than min, any impurities and combustion products will be better diluted. I prefer to keep my oil levels near max as it provides a reference mark to indicate any drop. But I guess that may be what you use the min mark for :-)

Not sure if this model actually has a dipstick. Most of these are electronic measuring through the MMi system.

A number of Audi-derived engines which use an electronic sensor to measure oil level also have a blanked off dipstick tube - model-specific dipsticks can be purchased from dealers and there is a VW Group generic adjustable dipstick.

It buys one time IOW. Always nice to have, even if one wastes it.
