Taxi - Fairy Lights - Orb>>.

Is this the silliest thing ever.

Taxi with fairy lights up a pillars along top of windows and across top of rear window, multi-colored and twinkling away.

Distracting or what?

One of my old colleagues used to drive afull size car transporter with twinkling fairy lights around the entire windscreen, on the inside, how he could see anything at night is beyond me, there's many vehicles being driven to this day with different vehicle maker's logos in bright neon lights behind the driver bathing everything including all windows in a garish glow.

sounds like good pull for contravention Road Vehicles Lighting Regs offence to display other than red to rear (with exceptions listed).

It strikes me that anything goes now. Every possible colour of light on the front of lorries and now some cars. The authorities didn't clamp down on these soon enough and now it is too late. So easily policed!

It is only easily Policed if there is enough Police to do so, but there isn't. And lets face it, in the grand scheme of things, it isn't anywhere near the top of the list of offences to be concerned about, even just motoring ones.

Dont really see why its "too late". If a law/reg remains in force, it could presumably be enforced at any time.

Re the lack of police, I'd assume this kind of thing could be enforced semi-automatically via CCTV/speed camera stylee remote sensing, plod participation free, so the offender just gets a picture of their illegal lights through the post along with a fine.

Could be I suppose that the law does not permit that kind of surveillance state bIg brotherly stuff, but seems fairly unlikely in The Yook.

Ed, when I first read '1984' at school, I thought 'Big Brother' surveillance couldn't happen here, but as the case of the Telegraph columnist visited in the morning of Remembrance day by not one, but two, of Essex Police's finest about a year old online comment someone had been offended by, I can assure you it is now very likely and will get worse unless there are radical changes,

I thought only red light was forbidden from being visible from the front.

iirc a lot of the lighting regs for cars don't apply to commercials.

How about twinkly lights in tyres as per kids' trainers? I'm surprised Wolseley's gimmick of an illuminated radiator badge never caught on, although the H shaped running lights of the Hyundai Santa Fe has the same idea.

"I've been down to the police station and they said that as long as the back emits red and the front emits white then I'm fine," he added.

"I've only been pulled over by police once so far to check everything is secure."
