Nissan - Is Brexit responsible? - gordonbennet

We didn't get Brexit, instead we had a poor BRINO, and part of the Brino deal means we are tied into the EU net zero lunacy, and its approaching timelines....which will kill off most of whatever UK car making is left.

It would appear the only car maker that didn't go along with all the other lemming makers nodding to political dogma is Toyota, and it will be interesting to see in another 10/15 years how right or wrong Toyota were.

Whether posters here like or dislike electric vehicles doesn't matter, the fact is they simply arn't selling on their own merits and most people who can't benefit from incentives won't buy a new one, Stellantis has too much production capacity in the UK for the number of vehicles it can sell hence they've decided Luton must go, unless someone comes along with bags of taxpayers cash a la British Leyland.

That raises the rather fundamental question of whether large factories are to make worthwhile products or just to employ people. Maggie had a hard time making it clear that there was little point digging coal if there was little demand for it, but she managed it in the end.

If the vehicles people want cost more than they are willing to pay, they will probably keep them going, which is probably bad for the makers and for the balance of payments, but maybe good for the repair industry ?
