Hyundai Tucson - Aftermarket Sat Nav Unit - andy4

The sat nav unit on my 2016 Hyundai Tucson is not working. I've tried all the reset option without success. I originally had sound but no screen but now it's completely dead.

I assumed, naively, that it would be a relatively easy fix. Unfortunately that is not proving to be the case. I have been told the unit itself can't be fixed. A new one from Hyundai is astronomically priced. So I thought I would get a second hand unit off of Ebay. But now I understand that will be a big problem because of getting it programed to work on my car. The whole thing is turning into a right PITA.

Someone has suggested an aftermarket unit. Has anyone gone down this route with a Tucson, or any other car fir that matter. Is it a sensible option? Can they fit into the existing sat nav housing , or do they look as if they are just plonked on top?

My other concern is that I am considering changing the car over the next year or so. Would an aftermarket sat nav unit be a big no no in terms of the car's trade in value? Or would it be no big deal?

Grateful for any advice.

My experience with these Hyundai media units is they are not particularly reliable and as you say, horrendously expensive. There may be an option to fit an aftermarket android unit into the existing location . Needs some investigation, but certainly cheaper than a new dealer unit .

Thanks. Will definitely go down the route of an aftermarket android unit. But really do want one that fits in the existing location. I've had a look at a few self fitting videos but not certain that's in my comfort zone. I will see what options there are going to a dealer.

I am assuming my existing factory fit reversing camera should work with most android units. Is that a safe assumption?

Most of these units are compatible with existing camera installations, but you do need to check the wiring adapters that come with the units. They are not a standard fitting.

Do any of the vehicle electronic repair specialist not offer a repair service for this units?

I spoke to a very helpful chap at a repair centre near me. His advice was if it just the screen that has gone the unit would be repairable. But as I have no sound it is likely to be beyond repair.

Personally, if I was a potential customer (which admittedly I,m not) I would suppress a cheer at the prospect of not having to deal with the b***** thing, andyhen probably pay too much for the car. IPhone satnav has gotme out of trouble once or twice but still overall a PITA. No interest in having one built in
