Just had break in Turkey and did loads of miles in a coach. Their roads are better than ours, few potholes, spa*** traffic...Instanbul excepted. I suspect their climate is kinder to road surfaces with little frost to crack them up and not so many huge lorries about.
I spent a few months there in the 1970s. Travelled all over the country. Great place and nice people but the drivers were very bad especially on the mountain roads in the north east. Hopefully things have improved since then. Coach travel is the way to go there. I wouldn't drive there. In the more remote places the local kids would chuck rocks at strangers while the adults just sat and watched.
