Anyone own an MG4? Some good reviews online, but MGs reliability is poor according to some reviews online, and some have had problems with the dealers. I wonder if the 7 year warranty is not worth the paper its written on?

Interesting link. Quite pleased as Suzuki top of the table - especially as I own one now!

MG.. once bitten. Shy for evermore.

You have a problem sir.

Zero point in phoning MG/saic.

My zs was an early one but it was the same.

I've driven an MG4 and they are a very nice drive indeed.

The vast majority of issues with the MG4 centre on the software particularly around the infotainment system and lane keep assist.

There have also been reports of AC charging units failing but these do seem to be being dealt with under warranty.

It is quite well known that being a MG franchise service manager is one of the worst jobs in the industry. The dealers often do try but getting MG to authorise anything or come back with technical support seems to be a constant nightmare.

If you are buying a MG because of the 7 year warranty take good look at it because many things are only covered for 3 years or less. It isn't really a 7 year warranty at all. On the upside you can get (or could last I looked) a new MG4 for under £20k if you shop around.

Same for every brand.

It's the dealer who sells the car that you have a contract with but you are able to take you car to any franchised dealer.

MG only import them. They don't service and fix them.

There is a well liked and rated independent local dealer in my town which took on an MG franchise about 4 years ago only to give it up after about 2 years. Don't know for certain, but the word on the street suggests it was exactly this reason why they gave it up.

There is a certain irony in that the MG franchised replaced a Suzuki one............

Nothing against the dealers, (Kerridges Needham market) were excellent, but they can only do what MC/SAIC allow..

Dealers cannot do work without authorisation and won't risk picking up the bill themselves.

On top of which OEM parts are silly prices.

Car makers make money on spares, not on cars...*Unless like Tesla they have dramatically reduced the costs of making a car body through large scale use of aluminium castings

Then again with an EV what oem parts are we actually going to need? It's a much simpler drivetrain. You only need pretty universal stuff, tyres, bulbs, wipers ,brake spares etc and that stuff is easy to find anywhere. OEM parts are going to be replacement panels, headlights etc. Not everyday stuff.

It's when the car is 5+ years old and you need new suspension bushes or the multitude of shims and components for disk brakes (NOT PADS) that you need a service with good spares accessories..

Or after a crash. LOTS of small parts,

There are now 21,700 on the road in the UK alone, as of Feb24. Spares will be readily available, no company would turn down a market that size.

Yes, MG sales are up.

The car looks great. Great value, i seen a 2023 plate in Motorpoint for under 15k. Lets hope MG sort out the problems.

I purchased a 22 Plate Skoda Scala in October 2023, I think i would be better keeping it long term. I can get an all in one package with Skoda for £37 a month, extended warranty, service, MOT and Breakdown cover.
