Steering Rack Grease - vivaro
Can anyone recommend a decent grease for a steering rack please?
It’s for my Audi A4 B8 with an electric rack, the boots still do their job it’s just the factory grease on the worm gear/inner tie rod could do with changing.
TIA

Not sure I understand, steering racks are full of power steering oil, if you on about lubricating the universal joint that joins the column to the rack then any decent quality grease will do, I normally give bits like that a quick squirt with some lithium based aerosol grease.

OP says it's an electric rack, so no power steering fluid and in any case, the fluid wouldn't lubricate the bit he's talking about. He's talking about re-greasing the rake and pinion. No idea what grease to use.

If its a rack and pinion, that involves metal to metal contact without roller bearing skid considerations, so a moly and/or EP containing grease might be appropriate, as sold for inside CV boots (not of course in Taiwan).

I ordered some Comma stuff from the sadly now defunct Pilrig Motors, though it was cheaper on’t nyet. Should be pretty widely available

I wouldn't have thought it would make much difference where the drive comes from, hydraulic pump, EMF or biceps.

You MIGHT find they specify something in a meaningful fashion that is actually obtainable, but probably not
