This doesn't seem to be possible with a post 2016 ICE car without running the engine. The electrics go into a sleep mode after a few minutes and turn off the audio system. Couldn't do it in my 2021 Duster. Present car is a little better, Clio E tech hybrid. If the car is put into Ready To Drive mode, the radio will stay on, with the engine firing up occasionally to keep the batteries charged up. I hate supermarkets and prefer to stay in the car while my wife gets the shopping. Does anyone have a way around this, and do pure EVs behave in the same way?

No EVs don't behave like that. Was listening to the audio today waiting for my wife to come out of a store. Well the 500e and Mokka-e don't but doubt others do much differently.

Buy small portable DAB radio and listen to that while parked. I've had some difficulties with the radio in my Piaggio Porter truck and am currently using one for the time being, works surprisingly well!

No need for engine running in either of our post 2016 ICE cars. Just turn the key (or press the start button once) to 'on' position and radio, electric windows, folding mirrors all work. Radio then stays on.

Surprised the Mokka-e doesn't go in to economy mode to protect the 12 volt battery like other PSA / Stellantis products.

That’s very much a Renault/Dacia feature - you get a few minutes, then it all goes to sleep. If a window is down, the engine has to be started to close it again.
I’d love a setting to extend the time period.

I'm afraid car electronics are now able to detect and discourage unreconstructed male behaviour. Get with the program!

If you want to alter the settings on Renault/Dacia you will have to hack the ECU - certain computer types have done it using this software.

I asked my French Dacia dealer to either remove the block or extend the very short preset time on listening to the radio/USB media when parked engine off and they said they do not have the access to the ecu to alter the preset.

There is software here - use it at your peril, if you brick the ECU it's down to you alone.

Same annoyance with our 2019 Peugeot 2008. Surely there's some way of over-riding it, or at least extending the period to half an hour? A car radio only uses about as much power as tail light bulb, so is hardly likely to drain the battery while reading the paper in Tesco's car park. Having to start the engine to re-set the cycle probably uses more power.

Interesting. My 2011 Focus radio shuts off after around 10 minutes with engine off. I thought it was a fault but maybe it's a battery saving measure. As BBD mentioned, I have been using a portable DAB radio, but the speakers in the Focus are good, which is a shame. Bit of a joke really, it can't use that much power. Previous cars have all been fine with radio on for at least half an hour. But they all had an old style DIN sized unit, original or aftermarket.

Using appropriate apps, you can turn your smartphone into radio.

Using appropriate apps, you can turn your smartphone into radio.

You can but if the ignition is off you can't use Android Auto, Bluetooth or a cable to play it over the ICE.

"My 2011 Focus radio shuts off after around 10 minutes with engine off"

That's a coincidence - our 2022 Dacia Duster shuts off after EXACTLY ten minutes, I've timed it several times - it's always ten minutes to the second.

Not so on my elderly MK2. Must be a MK3 'improvement'.

Also in the back I have these handle things that you can turn one way and the window goes down and the other way it goes up. Works without the ignition on. Brilliant. ;-)

Our current Berlingo does it. Minor annoyance more than issue as it's pretty rare I want to use the ICE with ignition off.

Ferry queue and European footy final was most recent occasion.

Not wanting to be 'controversial' here, but this is a frequent complaint that always confuses me. Can people's wives not drive? Why not get the shopping delivered? Why not just go in the supermarket and push the trolley? Why not take a book? Isn't it boring sitting in a car for ages doing nothing?

Probably a whole host of reasons, too numerous to list. I like sitting in the car alone, no noisy kids, no needing to interact with anyone, just my own space for 30 mins or so. I am more likely to be on the smartphone that listen to the radio though.

The attraction in french supermarket car parks is people watching, highly amusing, and being present when some of the gormless drivers practice their reversing near our car.

Apart from agreeing with John F, ahem, a lot of drivers are amusing in car parks especially the SUVs, as the drivers do not appear to know how to steer, common on the roads as well but annoying. I tend to watch what goes on in car parks and surprising how fast the time goes lol.

Not wanting to be 'controversial' here.....

Why not? Without controversy, no progress would be made.

Can people's wives not drive?

Mrs F is a good cautious driver - no unforced errors (body damage or traffic offences) in >40yrs of marriage.

Why not get the shopping delivered?

1. it costs more. 2. sometimes don't get want you want 3. shopping is pleasurable for time-rich pensioners

Why not just go in the supermarket and push the trolley?

Sometimes I do - usually to the booze aisle.

Why not take a book?

I usually take The Times

Isn't it boring sitting in a car for ages doing nothing?

See above.

You should be able to disable it using Diagbox.

Turn showroom mode from INACTIVE to ACTIVE.

The time period is written in to the BSI software so cannot be changed unless Peugeot update it in a future software release.

On older cars, there was an intermediate ignition position between off and on to allow the use of the radio and 12v sockets - modern cars just don't have that.

Any - Listening to the radio while parked - martin.mc

If you had fitted the stereo yourself, it could be wired straight to the 12v battery positive terminal (via a suitable fuse of course)! Most new cars don't even have an ignition key now.

Any - Listening to the radio while parked - Bilboman

I remember Fiats of old having an extra notch on the ignition key slot ("Acc", if I remember correctly") which was one step beyond the standard "Off". This position allowed sidelights and one or two other things - including, I think, the radio - and the key could be removed and the car locked. Quite a good system, as the driver would consciously be doing an extra "click" and should remember leaving the lights on!
Common sense would suggest that a passenger in a stationary car might want to listen to the radio, charge up the mobile or sound the horn in an emergency, so there is no logical reason why these circuits shouldn't be left active right up to the moment when the central locking is engaged.

Any - Listening to the radio while parked - Stackman II

In recent cars I have driven when the radio timed out it could be turned on again by pressing the on/off button.

This reset the timer so just rinse and repeat.

On my 2024 Suzuki Swace (aka Toyota Corolla TS hybrid) if you push the power button without pressing the foot brake pedal it goes into "Accessories" mode where you can listen to the radio. I know as I keep doing this by mistake - still getting used to it! It also fires up the 12v & USB sockets.
