Did the MOT relate to the wheel or tyre? Either way, I assume it was either adequately repaired for the MOT or a different tester had a more generous view.
In all likelihood, your car was written off, then bought from the salvage company (probably Copart) by someone who fixed it up and sold it on to you. They wouldn't have a V5 as the previous owner probably didn't supply it to the salvager.
If you bought the car from a dealer, I suggest you take it back on the grounds they didn't tell you it's a write off. If you bought it privately, you have pretty much zero recourse.
I presume it cost a few hundred quid. Personally, I would get the V5 then stick it on eBay or similar with the Cat S declared. I wouldn't personally want to drive around in an old write off, but someone else might, or a farmer may want to thrash around.
