Ford focus Mk 2 2010 1.6l petrol - Reprograming - Poor Iris

If I disconnect the plugs from the PCM (and ABS module) to check and clean the contacts,would they need reprogramming or would they retain their settings ?,thanks.

The program remains with each unit unless you replace them . I would strongly advise against cleaning the contacts as you could actually do more damage by “spreading “ the contact surface area . It’s also likely the engine ecu has a security shield around it that prevents easy access.

Thanks for your prompt reply.In the past I had problems of corrosion on the GEM module plugs which I cleaned and was fine.So what might happen if I did the same to these modules ?

If there’s no issues with the engine and abs systems, why do you need to clean the terminals ?

I do have a problem with the ESP part of the ABS,When turning sharp right the ESP operates on the front nearside wheel,the ESP light flickers slightly,and the ABS light doesn't light at all.Forscan pointed at the ABS sensor,which I replaced but did not cure fault.Then replaced YAW sensor,no difference.Internet searches suggest water ingress to ABS module and ECM.DTC are C1280,C1155,U2023 So thats my predicament at the moment,Thanks.

If the esp only operates when turning right, I wonder if there’s a problem with an active wheel bearing . Can you monitor wheel speed when the fault occurs? Don’t think it’s a connector fault at the abs module , but if you want to take a look, you’ll need to remove the battery and support tray for access .

Yes,monitoring the live wheel speeds using Forscan shows them all to be the same,with a slight variation when turning as you would expect.I looked at the ring magnet on the bearing and it seems fine.If I turn the ESP off,the problem disappears,so I'm a bit unsure what to try next !!

Does the car steer straight with the steering wheel pointing straight ahead ? What is the steering angle offset when driving straight ahead?

Sorry for delay,yes the car drives straight,I had all 4 tyures replaced last December and 4 wheel alignment.The steering angle I'm not sure about but again using Forscan the oscilloscope shows the correct measurements when turning steering wheel.So I'm stuck !!

I forgot to ask,Is a longitudinal acceleration sensor part of the YAW sensor ? When I try to calibrate it using FORscan it says "Vehicle does not meet specified conditions" When I try to find a L.A.S it,s not listed anywhere a a spare for my model ,Mmmm confused !

Really not sure what’s going on here. This focus has a fairly basic abs /esp system that doesn’t give much trouble. Yaw and Las are integrated into one unit . If you clear down all the faults then drive the car , what trouble codes are logged?

Thanks for your reply,the codes are C1280 and C1155 and sometimes U2023.The Instrument cluster has had all the dry joints repaired so should be ok,thanks.

Was the fault present before you had the tyres and alignment done ?
