Audi A3 Sportback TDI - Diesel Emission MOT Test - mak

Car is in for an MOT. It failed last year on the emission test. Used Dipetane since then, Forte Diesel Cleaner in with new fuel filter when serviced. Also sprayed EGR cleaner into intake. My annual mileage is around 1000 miles so not ideal but shame to sc***.

Searching on the internet I came across a chart that for vehicles before 2008 turbo are tested as per plate if present or 3.0m-1 if lower.

My question is can I 'cover plate' with tape (states 1.2m) so that it is tested at 3.0m-1?

You can remove the plate if you want, it’s not a mot failure. The emissions level/figure is produced by the testers machine when the vin is entered.

I haven't had a diesel for a while, but I'd take it to the MOT station 'the long way round', via the bypass. Once it was warm, I'd hold it at its rev limit for a mile or so. Never had a problem.

Many thanks for the replies. So they use the Vin number then.

Vin or registration number will produce the correct level of emission testing .

EGR cleaner might help, but it could probably do with the EGR removing and being cleaned out, doing that has made a massive difference to the emission results on my ageing Diesel, more than halved, you might be shocked at how much carbon muck is coating the EGR and inlet manifold.

When you say sprayed in the intake you mean between the intercooler and EGR valve, not the normal air intake before turbocharger?
