Yes there is - although I guess they'd need to establish its market value, I just put it into a website to see what it was valued at, so it might be worth a try.

It does sound rather expensive, but I agree that it probably makes sense to repair it. You won't find a usable car for less in the current market.

Looked at prices on line and using a couple of random postcodes and a random reg number for a 2006 C3 petrol, the price coming up on a comparison website (for a "mobile" fitter) is £452. So it does seem rather expensive and I'm suspecting the price you have been quoted is not what a local resident would pay!

However, as annoying as that is, I'd also agree with the notion that having the clutch done is the best option. As has been said, buying a viable replacement in todays used car market is going to cost a lot more than £800. And if you were to buy another cheap car, it may turn out to be a wreck, so better the devil you know. Assuming yours is a petrol, they are simple cars with little to go wrong.

Absolutely! If well maintained, another 50,000 miles should be easily expected. But clutch failure so soon suggests, ahem, a mechanically unsympathetic driving style.

An experienced competent driver should get over 100,000 miles out of a clutch. (Our old family car, a 1983 Passat GL5 estate, was traded in at 192,000 miles with its original clutch - although it did keep snapping its clutch cable every 35-40,000 miles - thanks to it having to adapt to the UK right hand drive position).
