Our lovely dealer Prestons of Writtle are no longer selling Ssangyong or doing warranty work.

Nearest official dealer is Attleborough or Wymondham or Chingford.

Have had a recall letter so needs to go to a warranty centre.

I feel a new car search coming on.

Sorry to hear that, and after all the palather you went through before settling on this one, which I presume you still like? Chingford is closest if I recall, but being inside the M25 will be a right pain to get to with the traffic.

How long until your car is out of its warranty period? Is it of the type that could easily be looked after then at a reputable local indie, hoping that no further warranty / recall work is needed any time soon?

I would have thought Chingford could be your best option from your location. It’s north city autos , in station road, previously Mitsubishi dealers for the past 35 years or so . Route A12 -M 25 , junction 26 to Epping new rd .

It's the other way round here in East Yorkshire, a new dealer has opened nearby for SsangYong / KGM - Livingstone Motor Group at Broach Hill Garage near Driffield.

If you want a new non electric car I'd get a move on. Many manufacturers have started pulling ICE powered cars especially if not an SUV due to the approaching fines.

Have booked it in for the recall in Wymondham. I'll get it serviced at the same time. A few weeks early but done in 1 hit. It's about an hour from here and they offered a courtesy car if I wanted to go into Norwich for the day..

Looked at the price of a replacement.

OMG...

Can't remember if you've already tried a Dacia Duster for comfort Orb, but my mate and his wife (for various reasons they both need a comfortable car!) are now on their 3rd (late 1st gen, 2nd gen and now a facelfted 2nd gen) and they really rate them.

Probably best you keep it ORB, think you'll get a shock if you tried to trade it in, if you are set on a replacement then BBD's suggestion is worth considering, I've driven both the latest Duster and the Jogger, both very comfortable.

Just out of interest what does the recall involve?

Recall is for Steering Column mounting brackets, (Official Vosa recall) got letter yesterday, was dated 14th January 2024... Hmm

For the getting a shock Not really, valued about £13000 so cost less than £250 a month my ownership, which is cheaper than a lease on anything else.

We'll see how things go, but 2025 duster possibly only available from November according to Dacia Dealer locally. and also I am now 73, so yes, why bother...

More thought required.

I’m not really surprised, SsangYong haven’t made much in the way of inroads into the UK market and as with many little known budget brands of the past (Proton for example) depreciation kills off any real incentive to buy a new one.

It’s a shame really as like Proton in the 90’s SsangYong offer decently built robust cars at a decent price. But I can’t see them surviving long in the hugely costly to occupy UK marketplace.

I’d make the rare journey to maintain any warranty terms or have repairs done then I’d service and maintain it with a decent local garage when the warranty is up. In theory you could have it serviced locally if they follow SsangYong’s schedule and use manufacturer parts, but warranty claims can be a problem when the manufacturer asks for proof. Some, like Kia are notorious for making things difficult if you haven’t used their dealer network, but in this case there’s very few of them and they’re dwindling by the year.

On the upside, I’ve never heard of any major problems on these, they’re apparently very robust and quite simple mechanically. Just sadly no one wants them when you want to sell.

Having looked at the alternatives except for the 2025 Duster, Prices are crazy.

Yes, it will (or should be) an annual trip to Wymondham for servicing to keep the warranty, (which I have not needed yet.

In fact no real problems to date.

I do like the look of the next generation Duster, so when there are some around maybe I'll try one..

Second hand is the only way to go in absence of a nice company or tax payer subsidy. The used market is still overpriced but it’s hammering a dose of sanity into car values, especially EV’s.
