I was at a traffic light and it was red, and I didn't notice at first but there was an ambulance behind me with lights flashing but no siren. Now initially I thought I should push forwards past the red light to give room as there was no other space for the ambulance to move forwards. Then I hesitated and thought no I can't do that as I might cause an accident wry cars coming across. I moved off when green, moved to the side to give the ambulance room and it turned on the siren and sped away.
It did make think what is the law here and the right thing to do? I found this here - www.londonambulance.nhs.uk/about-us/what-we-do/adv...e
Please avoid pulling into bus lanes or cycle lanes. The ambulance crew are trained to negotiate traffic and may look to use the bus lane to pass, and you could get in their way or even get a ticket.
Do not go through a red light to try to get out of the way as you may commit an offence. If it is safe to pass the ambulance will do so.
It appears I did the right thing?
