A neighbour sometimes drives our car back from Heathrow and disconnects the battery, then a few weeks later reconnects it to drive back to the longstay pick-up area. Any thoughts on insurance, as the fee for just a couple of hours comprehensive cover on two different days has risen hugely. I wondered if anyone has experience of short term insurance either with their own companies or with separate short term suppliers?

Found with me on our son's policy, needed to drive his car to and from reapirs but probably other stuff as/when, it was cheaper to add me to his policy rather than mess about with ultimately time limited temporary additional driver set ups.

Yes, I'd suggest just adding them as a named driver.might be cheaper.

It might be cheaper for them to take you in their car and pick you up afterwards - you can pay for their "petrol" and as long as that doesn't exceed the HMRC advisory rate there's no issue with income tax or insurance.

I've used Veygo (www.veygo.com/) several times for their short term learner driver insurance, which didn't seem overly expensive. They do also do temporary car insurance, though I've not used that.

We spend two/three months each year outside the country and wanted to let our daughter (mid 30s) use my wifes car.

Adding her as an additional driver added just £35 to the annual premium.

Thanks for the suggestions - I'll look into 'veygo'.
