Vauxhall Cavalier Mk2 1800i petrol Cabrio 1986 - Replace centre exhaust section - Parkton

Just wondering if anyone can suggest a supplier for the centre exhaust section for my car, which will need a replacement to pass it's next MoT?

I've done well up till now with National tyres, but they and all the usual suspects (even online) no longer stock the parts. Have also tried owners forums but no joy to date. I did find a couple of suppliers in Germany but neither will ship 'bulky items' to the UK even if I offer to cover carriage charges.

My fall back position is to get something fabricated by a local exhaust specialist, which is going to be expensive. So thought I 'd try asking a wider audience for any suggestions before I bite the bullet and pay for a special fabrication.

Thanks

Unless someone had miraculously got one sitting on shelf somewhere collecting dust , I think the best route would be to get on fabricated by an exhaust specialist.

Stranger things have happened - some friends of mine have a 1920's Morris Bullnose and they were looking to have some rear wheel bearings manufactured. As luck would have it some ancient original Morris items were found in an old dealership - they bought up all the stock of relevant parts!

Stainless steel exhaust time?

I once noticed that the rear silencer on my crusty old Hilux was at a strange angle. I grabbed it to see what was up and the whole thing came away in my hand. It turned out the loud clang I'd heard a couple of weeks before was the entire centre section falling off.

Anyway, a Powerflow stainless exhaust wasn't much more than buying a standard mild steel one. I never had any issues with it, although it wasn't the most elegant piece of fabrication.

A 1986 car on here. Cheered me up a bit. Thanks.

If you get a stainless steel (presumably full) system done, that'd perhaps be an additional reason to rust treat the car, if you dont/havn't already.

If you just replace the middle section in mild steel, it MIGHT be worth treating the exhaust.

My trick for this was to put some beer can and a teaspoon of Portland cement in the downpipe whenever I had it open, my theory being that the aluminium would flame spray the inside, and the cement would neutralise acids. No objective proof that it worked, of course, but it seemed to make sense. Wouldn't be worth doing on a stainless system, and would be a very bad idea with an exhaust catalyst.

I also wrapped the first maybe third of the system in aluminium pipe cladding (and beercan on the straight section) which might have protected the outside a bit, and also kept the exhaust gases hotter, cutting internal condensation. Thats a bit of a hassle to do, but I had the exhaust off anyway to replace a sheared manifold bolt.
