Peugeot Partner went in for service & MOT 2 weeks ago. 10yr service.
Service done, failed MOT as expected, needed a spring doing. Husband asked for timing belt doing as it's 10. Then we got a call to say it wouldn't start. There's power, but no starting. They plugged the computer in, computer says all fine.
The garage owner while talking to both of us after explaining the above said "It's something we've [the garage] done" then went quiet very quickly & looked at me, I looked at him as if we both acknowledged & logged what he'd just said & he looked like he was kicking himself for saying it out loud. He knows I heard him.
(I know the guy, used to go to him many years ago as he's a mate of a mate).
They took the battery out while doing the works, which after speaking to several mechanics & garages I now understand wasn't necessary, & it may be that they've not reset correctly. We found a procedure suggestion online & sent it across as they were stumped.
They say they've tried everything they can think of, & say they have an autoelectrician specialist coming to see if they can fix it.
The vehicle is taking up one of their hydraulic lifts as it won't move, & at one point they said they were going to have to move on to other jobs as they were getting behind!! Cheek!
It was running absolutely fine when we took it in, hasn't had any starting issues, doesn't do many miles as it's only a few miles drive to work & back.
Went today & asked for a courtesy vehicle, collecting it tomorrow as long as we can sort insurance. I've got a few days cover to see us up to Tuesday.
My plan is, once (if) it's fixed, I'll knock the cost of the temp insurance off the total as it's their fault we've ended up needing to buy it.
They also gave us a good idea of cost for the works we knew needed doing, the service & the MOT. Now, I'm fully expecting it to be slightly higher as you can't be 100% on these things, but I have a reasonable limit in mind. I don't believe we should pay for anything extra. They've had the vehicle much longer than they should have, & they admitted the issue is down to them.
If they can't fix it, do they have an obligation to claim for a replacement for the vehicle on their insurance?
Do they have a duty to get this resolved one way or another?
Does it come under Consumer Rights?
Are they liable for the costs over & above the works we asked for, the service & the MOT?
