1) Start saving for an electric car

2) Trade in my 5 year old car and buy a new or nearly new petrol car now and make it last 12 years.

3) Keep my five year old car and run it into the ground by 2035 -by which time I might not be around or at any rate probably not driving( 88!)

Anything else to consider?

Yes. The fact that nothing has been announced yet.

It has; just a few minutes ago. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-66863110

If you want to change car then just change it because you want, without worrying what will happen in future.

Future is always uncertain, nobody knows what will happen in 2035. Goalposts may be moved again.

Why do you need to make it last 12 years? they are not being banned from use in 12 years.
