EV discussions - Xileno

Recently there have been quite a few emails send to the Mod account regarding threads and quite forceful comments on both sides of the fence. This has inevitably taken up a lot of moderating time, too much really.

We do not have any desire to suppress EV opinions and we are not biased. Equally we have to be careful that HJ does not build a reputation for being strongly anti-EV since this could impact on advertisers and revenue. We are here for free as guests, the advertisers pay for it. No advertisers = no forum

We are not talking about personal experiences such as the current thread by SLO76 which is a good example of a real-life experience and is balanced. We are referring to externally-hosted or referenced articles criticising the EV industry. Some of these articles can be of questionable accuracy and at times there have been too many of them. The last part is really the issue here, it's the number of them.

We know from comments that some members are finding it all tedious and we have concerns about HJ becoming biased. We also find it tiring and want a sensible compromise met on posting. Therefore we are going to have a trial period where with immediate effect we will be limiting these externally hosted or referenced critical articles to no more than one in a 15 day period. We may apply some flexibility depending on the article and whether it's been covered before, at the discretion of the moderators. This should in theory keep both camps on board, we are not banning but limiting.

Equally as part of the deal please could members on the other side of the fence not make comments along the lines "oh not another one etc." and just ignore the thread entirely unless they are making a constructive contribution.

We will see how it goes. We reserve the right to adjust the 15 day period up or down or make any other adjustments if felt necessary. We reserve the right to scrap it entirely.

We are hoping that with this compromise in place we might keep both camps reasonably content. We don't want to suppress opposing views, the forum would be dull if we all agreed and EV is a hot topic and will become increasingly so as the 2030 deadline approaches. Equally we don't want the forum to become a repetitively anti-EV echo chamber with possible implications for HJ.

We are locking this thread as we do not want this to turn into a debate but will occasionally push it to the top of the forum until we believe most have seen it. It may then appear as a Sticky thread at the top of the forum.
