Aston deal validates “the most advanced electric motor in the world”, says Lucid Air creator | Top Gear

AM putting its faith in the Lucid electric motor to power its cars in the belief that the motor itself rather than the battery is the answer to range. As the techs develop both will play a part but surely a more efficient motor will use less battery but how much is the real question?

An electric motor is normally about 85% efficient. So a maximum gain of 15% in theory. although that would be very difficult if not impossible to achieve. I think ICE engines are about 40% efficient.

Petrol is 25% efficient and diesel is 40%. You can never get 100% efficiency.

Lucid trumpets their claim of inventing a new type of stator winding (it's not new) and the clever hollow rotor housing the diff. The motor certainly has an impressive power to weight ratio, but what about reliability? Try searching 'lucid recalls'......
