China is producing many thousands of EVs but not selling them. The makers keep producing them to keep receiving subsidies but there are not enough buyers, so they park them up.

This video was obviously sponsored and financed by big oil.

I think this video is a pretty stupid example of American anti-China propaganda. Far from intentionally being 'left to rot' by the scheming PRC, these cars are merely the property of a failed car-share business called Microcity. If you want to know more, just search 'microcity cars'. (Then perhaps search on the carbon footprint of an American compared to......well, anyone else....)

I'm quite enjoying the idea that the sinister Chinese are spending their money on building thousands of cars just to put them in a field. That's one in the eye for democracy!

China is making a fair few Teslas for world markets. I don't think these are hanging around. Remember when Made in Britain was something to be proud of. We should have no trouble reaching zero carbon when the rest of the car industry decides to leave.

I resisted the temptation to order a dozen Ekster wallets!

A lot of these cars are probably the result of failed orders or abandoned schemes like the car sharing one that was mentioned.

I'd guess that when the cars have aged enough to not be considered 'new', they'll be sold off dirt-cheap.

Have you a 'Made in Britain' car?

You said 'Remember when Made in Britain was something to be proud of' so does not sound like you would be proud of it being made in Britain any longer for some reason.

Everything you post on here is having a go at someone and putting your own negative on statements taken out of the whole post and content. All my comment reflects is that not that long ago Britain was a manufacturing country and that our car industry is shrinking. You must have been struck rigid when my answer to your question was that I had a MINI hence this latest barb about not be proud of my country.

No, I thought you had a Mini but was not sure - so perplexed why you were not proud of it. I can't see why there being less car manuafctuing in the UK would make you less proud of cars that are made here though?

Good to know the truth behind this one, it didn't look like they had been left there to rot on purpose.

Reading that article it contains the paragraphs:-

"The cars were owned by Microcity, a Hangzhou-based electric car-sharing company, AFP reported. A former manager of the company said that the cars were set to be replaced with newer electric vehicles.

The former manager, Lou Gaofeng, told AFP most of the cars “were the first generation electric vehicles which had been produced in 2013 and even earlier and should be replaced due to technological progress.”

So - cars left to rot is a fair description.

No it's not. It's an assertion, and probably erroneous. A description would be 'a lot of cars in a parking lot'.

Hardly parked in a way that would make re-use easy or economic, compare with the old airfields used fro storage here.
