Ford Mondeo Mk 3 Automatic petrol Zetec estate 05 - Buzzer noise when selecting Park from Drive. - Mondeo Auto

I get a loud electrical buzzer noise emanating from the gear lever area from Drive to Park.Sometimes it lasts for a few seconds but today it started and I had to turn the ignition off to stop it.Sounds like some sort of warning buzzer.The car does not have parking sensors

I would think it’s related to the park interlock circuit, whereby you can’t shift the lever out of park unless you have your foot on the brake .
