My wife's car is knackered and she is not really good with the car side of things, she works as a nurse for NHS, anybody know any good Car Dealerships that give a discount, Obviously I know my stuff so she won't be getting ripped off but having some good feedback before hand would be good as well.

My Mother in law bought a new Hyundai i10 a few years ago from the (Arnold Clark) dealer in Aberdeen. She got a discount because she used to work for the Police, though I don't remember how much. Given that, I'd have thought an NHS nurse would also get a discount from them.

I think I'd be inclined to just ask at whatever dealer you are looking at. There is a lot of love out there for NHS staff, particularly nurses!

It tends to be the manufacturers that offer the affinity schemes (like the NHS), rather than the dealer themselves.
The dealer staff will be able to offer the discount offered by the manufacturer.

If she is a member of Boundless , CSMA they offer discounts on cars , tyres through Black Circle etc .

Used to be for NHS , Bt etc but now opened up.

The deals are very specific on cars though.

Yes the poorly paid public sector they have perks everywhere A sister in law 10years retired still has a card and her son a senior paramedic, I cannot keep up with the discounts he gets

Sammy... Yrg is an NHS doc.. does on average 10 hours unpaid overtime as she can't clock off in the middle of an overrunning op. Delivery or seeing a patient.

As do many nurses paramedics and ambulance drivers. I know of one midwife who is owed 1500 hours.

I don't begrudge an discount on cars or food in our local pub.

As an aside I know of a whole bunch of senior docs here who invite their staff for a meal as a team and take in treats for snacks for HC assistants and nurses.

In the days I had discounts on cars it was 22+% off.

Yrg payrise this year 0 %..

Sorry I do not agree with the discount scenario. It may make the world go around but all it means is the rest of us pay full whack or probably more to subsidise others. You only have to look at the likes of supermarkets with their so called loyalty cards. People including a fair number of pensioners who do not have the car pay way over the prices that card holders do. Why not get a card one might ask might ask well some are unaware and others don't realise the value of these cards and hence the SM are in a win win.

As to unpaid overtime in the NHS well a lot of employees are in the exact same boat. My paramedic nephew could not exist without overtime

I would try the Blue Light Card.

I would also suggest looking at some of the well known brokers (Car File, Car Wow etc...). It wouldn't surprise me if the brokers price (for the ordinary punter) matched any special NHS discounts through the dealers or manufacturers.

‘ Sorry I do not agree with the discount scenario.’

Have you always paid full list price for every new car you may have bought? Or just stumped up the full asking price on a used one?
Do you have any supermarket loyalty cards?
Car Discounts for NHS staff? - KB.

Presumably Sammy insists on paying the maximum possible for everything he buys and never accepts a "discount" of any sort. No supermarket loyalty card, senior railcard or any one of a thousand offers that suppliers may make to encourage sales. He obviously never uses the insurance comparison sites to get the best price in case they offer a "discount" and presumably uses NFU Mutual as they usually come out the dearest when comparing.

He obviously shops at Waitrose as they're usually a bit more expensive and not known for discounting as much as Lidl or Aldi and I sincedrely trust you've NEVER deigned to accept a free Waitrose coffee- heaven forbid!). (Sammy, I do hope you can assure us you've never set foot in a Lidl store as receiving a discount pack of washing powder would be way against your principles)).

Am I right in thinking you live in Wales, Sammy? In which case it's not especially likely that I'll bump in to you in the Welsh hillside and it pleases me that you and I are hundred or so miles away from each other because we are decidedly unlikely to hit it off together.

Anyway, I'm off to get some petrol - it's on offer at out local Trago Mills.

People on here are incapable of an objective point of view. Off course I play the system as much as anyone else. It does however not favour certain members of society namely say single pensioners. Just take BOGYF for instance. A lot of these offers in supermarkets but most are of little use to a single person. All these discounts prove is that the original advertised prices are grossly inflated and the consumer just does not know where a fair price is

Someone mentions discounted fuel, well the watchdog has monitored the price we are paying and told the supermarkets that they are charging 5p a litre more since the start of the crisis than they should be and ordered them to adjust. So the consumer even with so called discounted fuel is still being ripped off

Citroen cars have decided recently that their list price it just that no haggling. How long they might hold the line on this is anyones guess.

"People on here are incapable of an objective point of view."

Well that's an interesting observation on your behalf. Do you mean ALL of us - except you? Well I'll try to bear that in mind then.

And it's interesting to see you "play the system" as much as anyone else ... but you draw the line at certain occupations being more entitled to do so than your goodself ... as in nurses or other public service employees, many of whom are actually not vvery well paid and might even work quite hard to earn their remittance - and you begrudge them receiving a discount that you might not be entitled to? OK, that's cleared that one up ... just as long as we know.

I'm going to guess that if you ever happen to spend a little time in a hospital the last thing you would dream of doing is to send the staff a thank-you card .... because, let's face it, they're being paid aren't they and we wouldn't want to show them any sort of favour, would we?

You can rant and rave on the forum and spread as much negativity as you like and quote headlines from the popular press in the hope of getting a reaction - no-one will stop you (within reason) but don't be surprised when not everyone agrees with your "objective point of view" because despite your assertion that we're all incapable of possessing or expressing one people are still entitled to see things slightly differently from your goodself even if you don't lke that concept.

Never bought a new car from a showroom I just cannot stand the type of people they employ and their totally false attitudes and I don't drink coffee.

No I don't have loyalty cards but Mrs Sammy purse is bursting with the things!!

Only because of historic boundary change. I was born in Monmouthshire and the country border was the river Rhymney next to Cardiff.

Ps I don't know why you find the need to get so irate about my post. I have visited Trago Mills in Cornwall and they recently opened a store in Merthyr if you care to visit, you will be most welcome. Croeso!
