GT Radial?, is that a brand?. If so, never heard of them and as such I'd have expected them to be a lot cheaper than the other two!.

Its an odd trio though, are those your only choices?.

Hi

Yes gt is a mid range tyre brand

I have Michelin Bridgestone Contintel and others

These are just my choices on price point

I only do 2700 miles a year

If you think you might ever sell the car with these tyres on, go for the Pirelli as people will think you've splashed out on something premium. If you're not, go for the GT Radial as they're the cheapest and will be fine.

GT Radial are a very budget brand, probably Chinese owned.

Avon are reaelly at best a mid-range brand, even though they often (in my view) tend to associate themselves with performance car tyres.

From reading many Tyre Reviews website tests over the years, Avons tend to be softer tyres to give good ry grip and reasonable on noise, but using slightly older tech but which are not so long lasting or so good in the wet.

Its an odd trio though, are those your only choices?.

Looks like from the prices quoted the likely size combo of tyre is either unusual, and thus not too many available, and thus having to rely on older or lesser tech / makes, and/or the tyres are wider / larger diameter / low profile.

It's always a good idea to check out what tyres a car you wish to buy has fitted and can be (manufacturer 'approved' size combos and what's physically / legally possible without having to recalibrate the speedo etc [if that's even allowed]), as many nowadays come fitted with 'unusual' (read rare) tyre size combos which cost a small fortune to replace, and often forcing the car's owner to either pick old tyre designs and/or hunt around to even find any.

I think that another thread covered this the other day to some degree.

I remember when I woned my old 90s Micra, its 175/60 R13H tyres were not that common when I bought the car (second hand) back in 1998, but there were enough decent makes manufacturing them using the latest tech so that I had a decent amount of choice, so that they only cost me £35 each (plus fitting) when I changed to a new set back in around 2002.

As 13in tyres are now very uncommon, even on superminis and city cars, the number of tyres available has probably dropped by 90-95%, leaving mainly cheapo Chinese ditchfinders (£45) or 10yo tyre tech (average - poor mpg and wet rated) and costing £85 a corner (all plus fitting) on BlackCircles.

They are neither a budget brand or Chinese. See here:

They are from Singapore and supply OEM tyres to a lot of well known makers.

That was quite a surprise to me - I've never seen a new car fitted with Giti (GT radial) tyres. Sure, some much older cars (8-10 years old and more).

I had a look on the Tyre Reviews website, and their listed amongst the mid-range brands (not budget as I first thought - perhaps because of the following), and from memory, they tend to come nearer the bottom of the list in group tests that are listed there (many of which are external, but they do conduct their own a well) when actually tested.

www.tyrereviews.com/Tyre/

But then I think that at least a few mid-range makes such as Toyo, Yokohama and Khumo are used for OEM - I know that the former are used on a good few Mazdas.

Even so. those GT Radials are still quite expensive, which fits with my theory about the commoness (such a word?) of the size combo and availability.

The OP only does 2700miles per annum. He might just as well put budget tyres on as age will get them before wear.

It depends upon how safe they are. Some are just not very good in the wet. Besides, well over £100 a corner is hardly a low price. TBH, what they should do it depends on how long they intend to keep the car and what options they may have, say, for changing eother the wheel and/or tyre sizes as well, e.g. a smaller wheel, higher profile tyres that may be vastly cheaper.

When I downsized my cars wheels and fitted the appropriate size tyres to compensate, the overall cost to change (above what I would've spent replacing one wheel [corroded and casuing the tyre to leak] plus 4 new tyres that needed changing anyway) was around £100, and I would (then) be quids in to the tune of around £100 every time I subsequently changed tyres due to the smaller (inner) diameter ones being a good bit cheaper. Payback in one tyre change cycle.

I've used Michellin Crossclimate , They have Fantastic grip and steering far better than the tyres I had before they are abit noisier but after awhile i got used to it. Overall would definitely recommend.

Whilst I changed to them in 2018 from Dunlop SP Sport Fastresponse summer tyres (which were excellent), all season tyres are normally somewhere between 25-40% more expensive than summers, particualrly for 'sportier' sizes.

Mine have also lasted well, but then I don't do much mileage, and I tend to change tyres based on age / condition. Newer tyres are seemingly designed to last longer time-wise for low mileage users), and Michelin seem to make a big play for that.

I've heard that they're designed to last 10 years instead of the 6 or so previous generations did (and mine is the CC+, technically the second gen one, though the 'third' generation version is called CC2!)

Whether that is of any use to the OP depends on their annual mileage.
