Ford Focus - P2303 fault code? - ben100
Ford focus 2006 1.6 the EML light came on, plugged it in & got a P2303 fault code. Also in first gear only if you try to take off quick it starts to judder/kangaroo but will take off fine if you take off normally/slower if that relates to the issue at all?

This fault relates to an ignition issue. I would be looking at possible problems with the ht leads , spark plugs and coil . I would also check the wiring connector at the coil . Common problem to become loose .

The ignition coil is actually two coils in one pack. One fires cylinders 1 & 4, and the other fires cylinders 2 & 3. On the ignition coil pack you have a plug with three wires. The centre wire is a common 12v ignition supply to both coils. The outer two are the returns to the ECM. One is for one coil and the other is for the other coil. You need to check that both are switching when the engine is cranking. It's likely that one is and the other one isn't. That would likely mean you either have a broken wire between the coil and the ECM, or an internal fault with the ECM.

Coil pack failure is quite common, fortunately it's a fairly cheap fix. Do asap to stop further damage - whilst misfiring unburnt fuel is being sent down the exhaust and can damage sensors & the catalyst all of which cost considerably more.
