Hi,

I want to get a three seater maxi van with the highest maximum load.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

If you want the largest payload in a van you can drive on a car licence (and not need a tacho) the best will be on the physically smallest van rated at 3.5 tonnes. For example the short wheelbase low roof Transit can carry about 400kg more than the long wheel base high roof version.

Luton Vans are even worse - a Luton Van with a tail lift can only carry about the same payload as a Vauxhall Combo. Unless you're carrying something very light and bulky (i.e. mostly air), you'll reach the weight capacity a long time before a Luton van is physically full.

As said above, you need to be specific about the size of load you want to carry.

You also need to be aware of maximum axle loads.

The 'light chassis' versions of the Fiat Ducato/Citroen Relay/Peugeot Boxer/Vauxhall whatever typically have a max rear axle load of 2000kg. The 'heavy chassis' versions have a typical max rear axle load of 2400kg.

Do you mean the old LDV maxi van?

Or the new (and quite good) Chinese Maxus vans?

Will also be using it as the main form of transport, so not a LDV.

We're looking at a mid size van.

Thanks Will for pointing that out.

Think we'll be using a load of 1000kg - 2000kg.

Budget - £5000

Petrol or Diesel - doesn't matter

Manual/auto - Any

Location - Based in Portsmouth but will be going all over the UK.

A big van at that price is probably going to be on its last legs and/or done a huge mileage. Bottom line is that it will be a massive gamble, so how lucky do you feel?.

Petrol or Diesel - doesn't matter

You might find an LPG option, otherwise it will be diesel.

Manual/auto - Any

Because of the likely condition/mileage of whatever van you look at, an auto (were ne to crop up) is probably unwise.

Think we'll be using a load of 1000kg - 2000kg.

You are not going to get a 3.5t van able to (legally) carry a 2000kg payload.

Good luck, you'll need it!
