BMW X5 (2016) - BMW X5 (2016) break pads front and rear - Greggsy

on average, which break pads (front or rear) will need replacing first from new?

I would guess fronts wear three times as quickly as rears

Usually yes its the fronts, but much depends on how you drive and on what sort of roads, the rear brakes especially can be used individually by the traction control systems for car balance, i have known cases on even our own cars where the rear brakes have needed replacing first.

Our different model Subarus have both gone relatively rapidly through rear brake pads, before the suggestions of rusted discs crops up to warrant the pad wear the discs on our cars are always in good condition.

The above assumes properly working and fully serviced brakes all round.

it's normal driving on motorways and in town, no offroading

Front. (The rear pads on my 17yr old 73,000 mile Audi A8 are original, and I replaced the front ones only about 5,000 miles ago,) Beware garages which try to persuade you to change them when there are still several millimetres of wear left on them. ......"won't last till the next service, squire...." or "....best to replace front and rear as an all new set, luv....."
