Land Rover Defender 110 - Landrover - Peter James Rogers

Good morning all, it's my first time on here! I'm looking for some advice regarding selling my Landrover Defender. I'm being given vastly different quotes of how much my car is worth that I'm totally confused. Ebay are asking anything from £5000 to £30000 for similar vehicles which is why I have no idea how much to ask. Is there a site I can access or does anyone actually know the going rate for these cars? I'd be very grateful for some guidance.

But those two prices are not going to be for the same car in the same conditions. Plus, with Ebay being an auction site, that lowest amount might just be current bid.

What exact model are we talking about (engine, age, mileage condition, wheelbase)?

My car is a 2002 plate Defender in reasonable condition. Mileage is 96000 and it is a long wheel base (110) with nine seats.

"Reasonable condition" is a little vague, and is very much open to interpretation!. However it is a very low mileage for a Defender of that age, which is a plus point.

Setting an age of between 1995 and 2005 and a max mileage of 125k, there are only 11 LWB Defenders on Autotrader, ranging in price from £17-30k. Cheapest of those, going by the pics, I would consider "average" condition. If yours was in a similar condition, because of the lower miles, it might be worth a little more (though that would assume nothing alarming in the MOT advisory department).

I am loathe to get rid of it but due to the fact that it hasn't been used in over a year means that it is being totally wasted in my hands. It's always started first time and would be perfect for a family.

Going by the prices on Autotrader, it sounds like you could reasonably ask £20k for it. Probably worth getting a price from WBAC or similar though, its not like you are committing to anything by doing so, but it would give you a guide on the value. Its probably reasonable to assume if, you wanted to sell it yourself, you could ask 10-15% more than they are offering.

Defenders are certainly in demand, so I can't see you having any trouble shifting it.

Condition of bodywork is important, granted, but any serious buyer of a ladder chassis 4x4, almost all of which had only basically painted chassis when built, is going to be all over the underside of the vehicle before they look anywhere else.

If its rock solid and rust free underneath it will sell quickly and for a good price (take pics of the underside and include them in your advert and they'll be beating a path to your door), if its rusted badly then many possible buyers will turn up look underneath and leave a moment later...lost count of how many Toyota 4x4's described as anything from good to mint i've taken one look underneath and walked away without opening a door or bonnet.

While this is all true, it’s perhaps worth pointing out that there is no “terminal” state for these, unlike most vehicles, because you can buy new frames for them,l While this isn’t directly relevant to the OP, probably more likely with a series 3, and a big expensive job, no doubt, it will mean prices bottom out well above zero.

“Bargain Cars” dealer in Edinburgh had some cheap Series III that I ‘d guess might have needed such major surgery. If my brother still had outbuildings iI would have been tempted.
