Toyota stopped using them because they had such a negative response. Same with Honda and the i-shift.
But it isn't just reliability you need to consider, its drivability too. We have a Suzuki Ignis with this type of transmission (single clutch automated manual) and I now wish we had gone for something else instead. Not too bad if just tootling along but borderline hazardous in a multi story car park. Get used to juddering starts when cold, slow and jerky gear changes (unless you time a lift of the accelerator pedal just so), slow responses if you want to overtake (I only do this using manual control now because I just don't trust it to react when I want it to). In fairness, it isn't actually too bad if you take manual control of the gear changes, though they are never quick. Overall, I'd say they make you look like a learner driver.
Regardless of how reliable or otherwise they are, I'd suggest something else. Such as a nice 1st gen Yaris (there are still a few nice ones kicking about and they use a t/c auto), or alternatively a Mazda 2 or Suzuki Swift.
