Any - Apple car play/Waze data usage - Halmerend
Might be a daft question but does Waze still use data if you don’t have the map showing?

Funnily enough I left Waze running for 24 hours by accident earlier this week with the case closed so it was “off” with no screen lighting. I guess it was actually on standby. My data went down a bit but I can’t remember how much.

I think it’s brilliant. But I only need it occasionally so turn CarPlay on and off to stop it bleeping in the background. I just wondered if it’s using much data in the background.

If it's not doing anything on screen then it will be using nothing/hardly anything other than checking itself where it is. Even in use software like this does not use huge amounts of data. Not sure if the app shows how much data is used somewhere on an iPhone - am sure it does.

I use Waze as our primary satnav but I am still finding some of the routes suggested are, frankly, ludicrous. We loved it when it first came to the UK, but increasingly I look at an actual map, a paper one, before any new journey so that I have a frame of reference to place what the new suggested route would mean. As an aside, I am finding the increasing reliance on a relatively small view of my route means I find I am losing perspective of where I am in that journey.

A Gb of data will run Waze for 1000 hours in use, so if it’s using anything sitting in the background it’ll be tiny.

Yes its checking your location, you can switch off in settings but not sure where in settings

I’ve changed it to ‘alerts only’ from ‘sounds’ under ‘voice and as sounds’ so will see how it goes thanks.
