Hyundai ix35 17 diesel - Gear crunch changing into 4th gear - Paul Cr

My hyundai ix35 is crunching when changing from 3rd to 4th and back from 5th to 4th I've read it's a common fault with the selector.

Anybody know how much it will cost to have it repaired.

Sounds like it needs a gearbox overhaul. Problem with the synchromesh/gears . Find a gearbox repair shop and get a quote. Looks expensive.

These Hyundais are notorious for worn synchro (made of cheese). 4th and 6th gear usually affected. Clutches are poor too so you'll need a clutch. Basic labour to strip the box and replace synchros will be c £500. Then the cost of the synchro parts and the clutch kit. Maybe £1000 - 1200 will cover it. I know Planet Gears in Peterborough do a lot of these.

I thought Kia and Hyundai were 7 year warranties? I'm fairly sure I read on the UK Kia forum that some had been repaired under warranty or with a good will payment.

There's one way to find out ....

Kia warranty is 7 years, Hyundai warranty is 5 years. Both require full dealer servicing, on time.

Thanks everyone for your replies its only doing it when changing into 4th gear and not bad if I change gear slowly
