Ford Fiesta 1.6 - 2014 Fiesta 1.6 going into limp mode - Burgalot

Hello, I'm hoping someone may have some advice for us.

We bought our son the above car in August 2021 and have had nothing but problems with it since then. Within the first six months it repeatedly wouldn't start and then goes into limp mode. We can get a garage to reset the codes and the car drives fine but a) there's obviously a problem and b) it costs us money every time.

So, we stopped using the car until this week and it again wouldn't start - we start and run the car every day, even when we weren't using it fully - and again went into limp mode. We found a decent garage who shared all the codes with us and who also just said "get rid of it, it'll always be a problem. We've had quite a few with similar problems". They wouldn't take on the work of fixing it as they couldn't guarantee any fix (they're the second of two decent, local garages to say the same).

The garage this week said they feel there's something wrong with the ECU and BDM.

Has anyone had similar? Did you manage to fix it?

Thanks

Without knowing the codes and the engine it's going to be hard for anyone to diagnose. Limp mode (fnaar) can be caused by several things.

Forget fault codes, they're the key to unlock the door. That's all. What's much more useful is to carry out diagnostic checks observing live data with a scantool. That way you can see what's going on. Use a vacuum gauge too which will tell you a lot about the mechanical state of the engine, or confirm it's in perfect health.
