Vauxhall Corsa C 2003 SXi - Rear window heater - Cicero

My rear window heater now only works on the upper half of the element. Does anybody know a fix for this or does it mean a replacement screen? Thanks.

New screen needed . You may be able to patch the elements with some electrical conductive paint, but it’s a real faff to do it .

Thats a blast from the past, can't remember the name of the silver paint we used now.

Mind you it worked and when you hadn't got two happenies to scratch your back side with was worth the time taken, i used to go along the lines with a compass point/bulb type circuit tester to find the breaks.

Hoped to do the same on my W124 coupe, the HRW of which blow regularly and at £500 or so for a pattern screen added up when you reached the third replacement, sadly the superfine wires are embedded in the laminate layer so no cheap fix possible.

I can’t remember the name either , but I do remember those Smiths stick on rear demister panels that were popular before heated rear windows were standard fit .

I remember fitting one to my wife's Morris Minor in the early 90s. You could warm your hands on the outside of the rear window.

It will be a faff to do a really tidy job, but on the plus side it's a helluva lot cheaper, and less inconvenient, than a whole new glass. Ebay will happily supply a little tube of paint with instructions.

Of course if the elements are buried in the glass it won't be much help .... :-(
