Hyundai i20 - Can't turn windscreen wipers off - oysterman

Evening guys. As headline says, can't turn them off using stalk. Normal & fast wiper work, intermittent does not. The only way they go off is when ignition key is removed (takes about 10 secs to stop) Any ideas?

Can’t give a definitive answer to this . Could be water ingress somewhere? Wipers are controlled by relays and body control module.

Could it be the motor which has a set of contacts to detect when the wipers are in the "parked" position? Wipers keep running until parked after being turned off, if the contacts are faulty it may just keep going. Has the car had a recent windscreen wiper freezing event?

I would agree with a motor faulty too.

Wiper motors have (or certainly used to have) a permanent live for the purposes of self parking. This would tie in with the wipers working irrespective of the switch position. As the motor doesn't know that the wipers are parked, they just run indefinately.

The power to the permanent live will be getting cut some seconds after turning off the ignition, due to the battery saver function cutting in. This will be causing the wipers to stop.

Anyone have a rough estimate of cost involved to replace the motor?

Depends if you want a new OEM motor or risk a used one from Ebay. I have done this with success on other cars. Typically new motor ~£200, used about £30.

Don't recollect any previous freezing event issue with wipers. We noticed a problem with the wipers when they had a 2/3 sec delay when they were on & got down to the park position before they started again. After that happened they wouldn't stop at all.

Have you confirmed it’s the motor that’s faulty? Think I’d want to check before spending out any cash .

Unfortunately haven't had anything confirmed yet, due to everything being closed over Xmas & also travelling to see family. Will try & get it into someone end of this week ??
