Hi there.

I've been going online without much luck with prices ranging from moderate to scary. Just hoping someone can advise on this.

One of the daytime lights on my Civic is off. It looks irritating so am hoping to find a solution.

Hoping someone has run into this and knows about it.

1) As far as I can tell it's not an MOT fail having one out of two running due to age of car, does that sound right?

2) There's so much variability online. Is this an easily replaceable part (approx cost?)

3) Can I disable it as I don't see any menu, would it have a dedicated fuse or something to pull out or is that connected to other components?

I appreciate there's different models etc but most stuff online and videos are american models that look a bit different or have them next to headlights. Mine are two strips that are within the bumper but below the headlights (i.e. there's clearance between the headlights and the daytime lights which are lower).

Thanks again!

Fitted lights have to be working for the Mot - depending on when your model was type-approved, DRLs may be mandatory.

Drls are only mot testable on cars registered from march 2018 . It may be possible to replace the drl bulb without major issue. Anything in the owners handbook? If it’s an led strip , then it probably needs a complete lamp unit . I guess you could disconnect the other side .

Hi thanks for the response. Yes when I did a search it seems that MOT should be ok.

Are these strip units replaceable without specialist equipment? I can't really find anything online for the model or in the handbook which seems to cover a variety of models.

Trying to get an idea of how much it would cost to purchase or fit (or disconnect if possible). Hoping someone familiar with 2013 Civic.

Not sure how to add an image but essentially if one googles honda 2013 civic and any UK advert would show it. It's a strip thats in the within a bumper cutout that includes some kind of vent and a circular light (I presume fog light or something). It's the strip that doesn't work which I can't really find online.

Thanks again to all.

Here is a pic showing the DRL's

For the OP, have you looked on Ebay?. I just typed in 2013 Honda Civic DRL and got results for as little as under £10 (there are others though):

Not familiar with the set up on these, but on other cars with a similar fitting, access can be gained from removal of the plastic stone guard in the wheelarch. Worst case, the bumper will need to be released on the corner with the failed light. I think you will find those drls on e bay are universal, not vehicle specific.

Hi yes thanks for that. The photo matches the strip.

I checked on ebay and there were like 130 quid ones that appeared to be units that match the model. If that link is correct type would buy it are they pretty generic parts that a mechanic can fit? Your search skills are much more refined than mine!.

Also is this DIYable typically? Thanks again.

You must have the correct parts for the car .Generic parts wont fit , and possibly not compatible with the car electronics.

Ah yes, let me clarify as the ebay listing appeared compatible with a number of vehicles (although presumably there would be variants for different cars stocked by same seller).

I guess it doesn't hurt to buy them and take them to an independent during next service and perhaps can minimise cost that way. Thank you.

The Honda part number for these is 33200-TV0-E01 (right) or 33250-TV0-E01 (left). Stick that on eBay and you'll probably find the £130 on you're thinking of.

I would get the wiring checked before stumping up that much plus labour

Thanks for the responses everyone.

I knew there was a potential for these things to be expensive but at that official price I would look to leave it or have the other one deactivated somehow. \just not worth it

For those 'universal' ones being sold cheap is the general consensus then that they're not recommended or likely won't be compatible? In practical terms one wouldn't want to mess with the electrics but it isn't a particularly complex bit of kit as it surely just is a light connection. (albeit I have no idea how they fit in).

I think the options are go cheap or just bypass/deactivate somehow.

The only way to deactivate it , is to disconnect it . Not sure if this model has a bulb failure warning system which may flag up on the dash display .

The problem is that they are not just stuck on the bumper - they're 3D items that bolt in. This example gives you a decent idea. If you take them out, you will have an equivalent hole in the front of your car that you can't fill.

The generic ones are just a flat bar that may not fit in the hole at all, and certainly won't fit perfectly.

Ultimately, you may be able to remove the whole module, dismantle it and change the LEDs for those from a generic bar, but it seems a bit excessive. If you really can be bothered, unplug the other side, wrap the connector in something waterproof and cable tie it somewhere safe.

I still think that you'll probably find the wire to the faulty one is loose or damaged and there's no need to replace it.

I'm no expert but I am curious. I've seen plenty of older cars, which have been retro fitted with that type of generic DRL's. If they can be fitted to some cars, why would they not be able to be fitted to the OP's Civic?

And I'm certainly not convinced the ones already on the OP's car were designed specifically for that age Civic. It looks very much like an afterthought, as most earlier DRL's do, somebody from Honda had a look at the front of the car and asked themselves where they could shoehorn in DRL's with minimum cost. If they were an odd shape or built into the headlights themselves I'd maybe be a bit wary, but it does just appear to be a strip of LED bulbs.

The DRL's in question appear on the 2013 model year brochure front cover.

The hatch had the led bar in the bumper the tourer or estate has the bar built into the headlight iirc a replacement headlamp (led in Headlamp is fixed so Honda said) £1200 then- 2019- I checked as part of the bar was dimming.

apparently even bumper strips have resistors in circuit which blow so maybe worth taking off, I think 2 screws behind panel, see if someone can find the fault and repair, most leds dont fail they dim/or flash unless the driver (resistor) fails, as far as I`m aware. an electronics expert may know better....

Thanks all for the responses. They've been very helpful and narrowed down my options. Will see if I can get this looked at for a repair maybe at the next service, especially if that's a feasible option. After that it's a case of paying the price or telling them to disconnect it..

Thanks again.
