Hi I have got a 2011 vauxhall insignia cdti (a20dth) engine , when I bought it the sign on dash came up with diesel particulate filter full carry on driving and service vehicle soon , so I thought I could drive it home and like they say drive it like you stole it to clear dpf but it didn't work so I took it to garage for forced regen , he phoned me and said that it had diesel runaway and they checked oil and was about 10 litres of oil and diesel in sump , so he said he didn't want to do it , so I picked it up and it was only running on 3 cylinder and smoking like mad but drove it about 3 mile down road and smoke cleared , thought I would do compression test and number3 cylinder no compression

No compression on 3 ? Your engine is toast .

had diesel runaway

So it was running on the oil in the sump without any control on maximum revs. Certainly a recipe for disaster. I'd suspect the engine's toast!

like they say drive it like you stole it to clear dpf but it didn't work

It never works.

Imagine a DPF is like a tea mug:

When its new its all sparkly and clean inside.

Then over time it starts to attract stains.

No matter, a good wash in hot soapy water will sort it.

Then you find washing up liquid no longer works, it needs bleach.

Then further on you find it needs a wipe with a cloth.

Then as it gets older it needs a scouring pad and lots of scrubbing.

Your DPF is at the last stage, the "drive like you stole it" is the first stage.

Only way to sort it is to remove it for a proper clean, or replace.
