Kia Sorento - Phone keeps waking up - Crickleymal

Hi all. I have a 2006 Kia Sorento 2.5XT. I have my phone (Motorola e7i) on a clip on one of the air vents. The problem I have is that when the phone is in standby or sleep mode it keeps waking up and showing the lock screen. This isn't a problem during the day but at night it can be a bit distracting. At first I wondered if it could be power supply fluctuations but it does the same if it isn't charging. It does the same no matter which vent it's clipped onto but doesn't if it's left on the passenger seat. It happens at least once every minute. Short of turning the phone off which means no music I'm a bit puzzled as to what to do.

Unfortunately the windscreen is quite curved and I haven't found a screen mount that will stay on the windscreen so that's not an option.

It could be the air from the vent causing the screen to come on and if it has some static in the air the screen may think your touching it, have you tried reducing touch sensitivity of the screen. I had the same on a Samsung but turned down touch sensitivity which cured it, worth a try if it has that ability....

I'll give it a go. I'm not sure how you reduce the sensitivity.

If you can, it will be under the Accessibility section of Settings and be called something like touch & hold delay.

The other option, if you don't have one already, would be to fit a screen protector.

According to the internet it's pointer speed I have to adjust. I'll try it in the morning. I already have a screen protector fitted.

What type of clip is it. Is it vibrating a lot(some vents are flimsy) or does it have arms that are near any of the buttons?

Myself to properly mount things I use the Brodit range of mounts:- www.brodit.co.uk/brodit/vehicles/Kia/Sorento/2006....d

I can't remember. I bought it on holiday as my previous mount gave up the ghost. It's a reasonable make though. Definitely not a cheap one.

Only other thing I can think of, is while traveling the phone sends a signal and receives from different masts, ie, its id is transferred from one mast to another, and that could be waking it up, in some areas there are many masts and different signal strengths so changeover could be very often, but its only a thought and may be wrong, but if it is maybe put in aircraft mode if not wanting any calls or data?

It's a possibility I suppose. I tried reducing the pointer speed but that's made little difference. If anything it's made it worse. I could try airplane mode but I do like the ability to get phone calls occasionally and get data for the satnav.

I think you can use wifi for sat navs with airplane mode on, APm only shuts off the cellular network not wifi, they use the addresses of the routers in peoples houses to locate your position and tell you where your going

Airplane mode didn't work. It still keeps lighting up. The only thing it did was turn off the Bluetooth so I couldn't listen to music. I'm going to buy a different holder and see if that works.

I was told the sim card itself transmits to the provider on occasions, though no one knows what info is sent, which would wake it, as its using the aerial to do it.

but it hasn`t as yet been verified by any of the providers, so it is possible that could be the problem BUT if it is?, there isn`t any known way to stop these transmissions and apart from turning the screen brightness down to near minimal you may not cure it?

please let us know what you find as I`m interested to know the outcome of it as its an unusual problem, (apart from the usual causes!)

If it was that causing it the phone would wake up in the house every minute. It only seems to do it when in the vent mounted holder. And it only seems to be this phone. My previous Galaxy didn't do it.

Galaxy is a different phone and better than Moto whatever the reviews say. So maybe if under warranty take back tell them the fault see what they can do

Only problem to do with wake up (that I have come across ) is caused by battery management software adjusting power being used according to software in use which on budget phones works switched on or not apart from that sorry im at a loss unless the static from air vent is causing it?
