Hello..looking for recommendations for high quality wheel bearing puller.

This to save garage bills to remove and refit .

I have a milwalkie high torque impact to drive screw jack of the tool.

As I have seen 20tons required to free wheelbearings do these tools actually work...?

Interested to hear comments advice and recommendations.

Thanks.

Mike

Had a cheap bearing puller for a number of years now, seems to work OK whenever needed. Just looked up on euro car parts and they have a set of 3 for £20. Sure other retailers have the same for similar prices just that I have used ECP and always found their stuff good.

They also have much more expensive pullers listed

I have a milwalkie high torque impact to drive screw jack of the tool.

This doesn't seem necessary or appropriate.

A "high torque impact" wrench will...er...apply a lot of torque and impact to the tool.

IOW there will be a large and sudden rotational shock loading. This seems quite likely to bust or loosen it, which if it is under tension could be dangerous.

Torque is just a means to an end (the end being linear tension) here, and you don't need or want shock load, which is usually required to loosen stuck components or exploit rotational inertia.

I've only used a cheapo no name two leg puller (three leg would be better) and I wouldn't chose to use a power tool with it even if I had one. Using a hand tool (if necessary with a lever) allows me to apply adequate force gradually under complete control.

A pro, to whom time is money, might use an impact driver with a high quality puller and get away with it. This does not mean its the optimal thing to do.

Depends what sort of cars you want to work on . Wheel bearing puller not much use on a modern car where the bearing is integrated into the hub assembly. You need a press for these .

Presume the OP means something like this:

I've got one of these and changed a number of press-in bearings (Xantia, 307, 3008, C4 Picasso) with it. No impact driver, I just use a breaker bar and socket to drive it - it's a good work out! Generally I find that I can't apply enough torque to get it to shift initially, but winding it up as tight as I can, and then giving it a talking to with a big hammer, gets it moving and allows it to be wound out. In some cases you can use one of these with the hub on the car if you have an impact driver, and I have seen vids of this being done.

Has some pretty unhappy reviewers.

I wonder if it could be adapted to take a slide hammer, or if one of the slide hammer based kits would be a better alternative?
