I've had half a tank since returning from Scotland a couple of weeks ago.

It was high 180s at the local Morrisons when we returned, I noticed 1-2p drops each time I passed so held off filling and when I had to fill yesterday it was 176.7, matching Asda.

I don't expect to fuel up again for about a month so we'll see what happens in between.

Yesterday @ £1.799 at the local Co-op (Texaco) for E10.

There's been some strange things going on of late - towns/areas where fuel always was amongst the cheapest in the region (e.g. Watford*, Stevenage) is now mid-to upper price; other areas, like my own town and surrounds amongst the cheapest (relatively speaking) at 180p (Esso) and 181.9p (Tesco next door) respectively.

I suspect the prices will be dropping again by mid week when the next tanker-load is delivered.

* sans Cosco

Glad my area is the best price in the region as I can now get better quality petrol (more detergents in the branded fuel than supermarkets) and at a lower price.

In my view, the local Tesco only dropped their price because they were losing trade to the nearby Esso filling station, rather than reflecting the actual wholesale price at the time.

I travelled a few miles out of York ( escrick A19) to pay £181, cheapest so far in our area, we have a Tesco and bp near each other, the bp is currently £192, litre, it’s always been more expensive than nearly anywhere else at its height a few weeks ago £196, it used to go up daily, not sure what’s going on there as I said, Tesco nearby,

Interesting to see how it varies around the country.

Rarely have I ever seen fuel to be cheap at a BP filling station - the cheapest they ever got was at the 'Dome' roundabout on the A41 in Watford where it was (at best) a penny per litre more than the Sainsbury's and Asda, matching the Shell outlet. But that was 15+ years ago and the filling station closed, presumably because they couldn't attract enough trade.

My local BPs (A505, A10, etc) are currently about 8p/L more expensive than the Esso (in town) for E10.

TBH contrary to years gone by, when the supermakets always lowered prices to attract customers to the main shop, they are amongst the last (not Cosco) to drop prices at the moment, perhaps because they are already raking in big profits from inflated grocery prices. My local Esso has been cheaper than Tesco next door for the best part of the last 5 months now.

You need to do some quick calcs before making a special journey to reach cheap fuel. A 10p/litre differential and filling an empty tank will save about a fiver, which will take me about 25 miles on a good day. So normally I fill up at places I pass on a journey, when prices only vary by a few p.

£1.79.9 at Sainsburys here in sunny SE Hampshire today as well. Surprisingly, to me at least, the BP a few hundred metres from it was the same price. Unheard of in my experience.

I have not found diesel at the local Shell station to have dropped. Still at £1.97 per litre.

Diesel is £1.99 per litre in the Shell station located at Waitrose.

(Cheltenham).

The cheapest diesel near me (W. Herts) is a local Sainsbury's at £189.9.
