Hyundai i40 - Garage backed out of repair but want paying - STESHIPS

Gear linkage broke on my car by work, we have a garage on the same road so I asked them to take a look. They confirmed it was the linkage cables and ordered the part.

After 2 days he has abandoned the repair and said "it is beyond him" he said he said it was taking too long and basically gave up.

He now wants £220 (£100) for the part and £120 for labour.

I've left the car there at present as he clearly overestimated his own abilities why should I pay the labour.

I'll cover the part but not for his failed "learning on the job" at my expense.

Where do I stand?

If you want your car back, pay....

I presume your car is worth more than £220.

Look on the Hyundai forums to ask for a competent indie close to you.

I have to admit I would baulk at paying for labour which didn't produce the required result !

Pay the garage, get your car back and then sue them in the small claims court.

Yes, if you don't mind a bit of hassle, and perhaps some further cost. But maybe the threat could have the desired effect.
