Peugeot 2008 petrol - Fan running sporadically - Pokerpops

The cooling fan appears to have taken on a life of it’s own.

It runs on after even the shortest of journeys. Indeed, it ran on when I simply moved the car off the drive this morning.
Whilst driving it comes on and goes off in what seems a random way, regardless of the temp display reading.

any simple suggestions as to a cause/fix please?

For some reason these later Peugeot models run the cooling fan if the engine control module detects a fault with the engine management system . Most commonly on these , is a faulty mapped coolant thermostat or sensor .

Can I test that myself with a cheap reader or do I have to go to the Peugeot dealer? They want £120 just to run the diagnostics?

Cheap reader may do the the job , but they don’t give extensive coverage of all parameters . How about a local garage??

Google "Planet owners Map". You can find someone local with a clone of the dealer level diagnostic to give the same results. Many of us don't even charge.

Are the relays for the fuse in an exposed location? Peugeot had a history of putting them under the bonnet slam panel where they were exposed to all kinds of water and dirt ingress. I've fixed many stuck fans over the years by cleaning the relay contacts.
